Rare, Classic Motorcycle Lots At Bonhams

Bonhams, the well-noted auction house acquired several incredibly desirable, classic/vintage motorcycles. Arguably, not an unusual occurrence for such an esteemed auction house. Though, collectors may well reach for their chequebooks with haste, as (even by Bonhams’) standards lots featured in the New Bond Street December sale are incredibly rare.

BONHAMS RARE MOTORCYCLE LOTS

The lots include a 1936 Brough Superior, 1949 Vincent Black Shadow, 1950 AJS 7R, 1977 MV Agusta 750S America and my personal favourite; the 1963 BSA Rocket Gold Star. And that is the bike I would be bidding on if I had £25,000 to £30,000 in spare change, to spend on a museum piece.

A Real Bargain

The BSA RGS has the lowest list price, however, it’s not for that reason that it would get my bids. It’s such a uniquely beautiful machine.
Maybe it’s the way that the engine and tank look as though they’ve been carved out of one piece. Maybe it’s the way the pipe heads subtly curve and flows towards the back of the bike – forming a hybrid of cones and peashooter silencers. Or maybe it’s just the highly polished tank.

In all honesty, I can’t quite put my finger on why I adore the RGS so much. I’ve never so much as sat on one but I believe if I ever do, it will be pretty close to nirvana.

Aside, these classic motorcycles will be auctioned off at the Bond Street sales house in December. If you’re a collector, consider treating yourself to an early Christmas present. And while you’re on New Bond Street at Bonhams, pick up the 1963 BSA Rocket Goldstar for me. I’m mailing you the cheque right now… In the meantime, enjoy the galleries below:
